Louis Bunch

Obituary of Louis Bunch

Please share a memory of Louis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

On March 3rd Louis M. Bunch was quietly called home.  He had fiercely battled a debilitating illness for several years.  His kind heart, warm smile and words of wisdom will be missed by so many.  Louis was a loving husband and set an example for his offspring on what fatherhood is all about. Louis is survived by his "bride" of 62 years, Rosetta G. Williams and his 3 sons Louis E. Bunch (Cindi), Brian W. Bunch (Nellie), Darryl M. Bunch (Nadia) and daughter Jorgina Bunch-Russo. His oldest daughter Alvine Bunch-Reed passed in 1996. Louis is also survived by his sister Eulalia Glenn. Louis has 14 grandchildren and numerous great and great, great grandchildren. He is the son of the late Whit Bunch and Georgie Crocker.

Louis proudly served in the United States Navy for 21 years.  For much of his career he was assigned to ICBM Polaris style submarines. The ships he served on included USS Penobscott, USS Pursuit, USS Sea Leopard, USS Lafayette, USS Sam Houston, USS George Washington Carver, USS Thomas Jefferson, and the USS Hardhead. After retiring from the Navy, he opened and co-owned the Big Key Shop in the Majors Dept Store in Mariners Harbor. He also took pride in his work at the Staten Island Zoo building the rain forest exhibit. Then when he really embraced retirement. Louis adored his bride and the two of them were inseparable. He enjoyed spending time with his friends, the Galley gang.  He also enjoyed traveling and doing woodworking.  Louis loved to read and write.  One of his favorite things in the world to do was to spend time with the late Dr. Vincent & Natalie Fisher.  They were his extended family with a special bond. Their children Barbara Coughlin (John), Maureen Fisher, Kevin Fisher (Donna), Brian Fisher (Di), Theresa Fisher and Clairemarie O’Leary (Kevin) were treated as his own.
