God called Janice Marie Stephenson-Petters home on October 1st, 2020. Janice was born in Dukes Hospital in Durham N.C. on May 23rd, 1952 to James (Steve) Stephenson and Maddie (Stephenson) Valentine. She was the youngest of two. Her family move to Staten Island where Janice attended P.S. 20, I.S. 51 and graduated from Port Richmond High School. Janice would go on to earn an associate degree from Staten Island Community College. From there she would earn her Bachelor's degree from Boston University. She would go on to have a career in Social Work and human services. Janice was a faithful member of ST. Phillips Church since childhood. She served in the US Navy Reserves until 1995. In 1987, Janice married Ivan Petters and they had Janice's one and only Child. Janice was active in her community; she could be found every election day working at the polls and attending cultural events in Snug Harbor during the summer. Janice is preceded in death by her older brother James (Piggy) Stephenson. She leaves to cherish her memory, Her mother Maddie Valentine, Daughter Janelle Petters, husband Ivan Petters, granddaughter Ashlynn Reid, and a host of cousins and friends.
