Obituary of Paul Battipaglia

Please share a memory of Paul to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Paul John Battipaglia (Bubba), 51, of Staten Island, New York passed away on Wednesday, April 5, 2023. Born October 25, 1971, in Staten Island, New York, he was the son to the late Robert Battipaglia & Hoa Battipaglia-Hermus. He was a loving father to Bianca , Paul Jr., and JonPaul Battipaglia; step-father to Hunter Cruz; grandfather to Oliver Consuegra, brother to Robert Battipaglia, Linda Battipaglia, Jennifer Hermus-Washburn (Nathan) and Christopher Hermus; and ex-husband to Debbie Pellegrino and Elyse Troise. Uncle to Addison Hermus-Tripoli, Pearl Battipaglia, and Ender Hermus-Washburn. He leaves behind many loved ones who will remember him for his hard working nature, his distinct voice and laugh, his goofy antics, and his generous soul. Paulie would give his time and talents to anyone in need, which often came with some cursing and crude jokes, but it was part of his own type of charm. He always had a boyish way about him that could win hearts and usually get him out of trouble. Anyone who knew him can surely recall he was full of fun and adventure. Everyone has a wild story where he is one of the stars. For over thirty years Paul was a gifted mechanic at many shops and for the Department of Sanitation in New York where he was part of the immediate services at Ground Zero after 9/11. At one time he owned his own shop “Bubbas” which was one of many nicknames for him people hold fondly. If there was one thing to note about Paulie was that he worked tirelessly, and could seemingly operate or fix anything on wheels. In many ways working on cars was his way of showing how much he cared, and his work ethic was also his way of always making sure that the people around him were provided for. He always found a way to give of himself, even if it meant little sleep and then off to a theme park or bike ride before another shift. Paul possessed many strengths and was someone many people turned to. He was rough around the edges with a big heart. He could be quiet and shy but he could also be loud and crass. Paulie was never one for letting life become too serious and always found ways to make others laugh even if it meant pranks or something to tell a story about later on. We are all grateful for those stories to bring us comfort from this massive loss. He now joins his father Robert , mother Hoa, Uncle Tommy Battipaglia, and “brother” Nick.
