Obituary of Evelyn Etchison

Evelyn Etchison, 86, of Staten Island, NY passed away on 3/19/2024 in Clove Lakes Nursing Home.

Both viewing and service will be held at Shiloh A.M.E Zion Church with Rev. Kenneth P. Heyman, Sr., Pastor. Viewing will be from 9:30-10:30 AM, service will begin at 10:30 AM. Burial will follow at Silver Mount Cemetery, 918 Victory Boulevard. 

Evelyn Etchison was born in Staten Island, NY on December 11, 1937. She graduated from Mckee High School and also graduated from College of Staten Island while studying Psychology. She worked as a Mental Health Aid for about 6-7 years. She enjoyed puzzle books, magazines, visiting Atlantic City, eating out with her loved ones (Red Lobster or seafood was her spot) , playing cards and pokeno, bingo, and she loved to laugh and make jokes. She received many awards in college, and was a member of the West Brighton senior center. 

Evelyn is survived by her children and grandchildren. Maria Etchison, Darrel Etchison, Anthony Etchison, Douglas Etchison, Thomas Etchison, and Edward Etchison. She had a total of 22 Grandchildren, 25 Great-Grandchildren, and a ton of nieces/nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband Booker T. Etchison Jr, son James Etchison ll, sisters Mary and Mildred, and lastly her brother Harry. 

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all of the family and friends that have supported us during this time. Evelyn was loved by many and was a joy to be around and to talk to. She was extremely knowledgeable and gave great advice on life to those who needed it. She was a pillar in the West Brighton community and well-known. Evelyn will be dearly missed ,but will forever be in our hearts. 

Some things that she would say are "Don't stress, be blessed" and "Tell everybody I said hi".
