Obituary of Bernard W. Wilkinson

Bernard William Wilkinson, 85, passed away at home on Wednesday Sept. 25th after a long illness. A lifelong Staten Islander was a greatly loved and respected member of his family and community, He established a hot tar commercial roofing business, he was a hardworking man who took pride in his work and enjoyed doing it. His kind heart and quick-witted sense of humor made everyone happy. He enjoyed hosting parties and barbecues for family and friends, riding motorcycles, crab fishing and fine dining but most of all spending time with his large family.

Bernard was born the 6th of 12 children to Louella and Alfred Wilkinson. He was also preceded by brothers Clifford, Alfred Jr.and Kenneth, sisters Lorraine Pizzola and Joan Roschbach. Survived by brothers Robert and Raymond, sisters Ann Matera, Carol Lordo, Beatrice (Toots) Howell and Lois DePalma. Survived also by his wife of 65 years Madeline, daughters Darla Wilkinson and Joylyn Smith.  Beloved grandfather of Shanon, Erik Bernard, Kyel, Justine and Zachary, 6 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation at the Matthew Funeral Home, Inc., 2508 Victory Boulevard, on Thursday and Friday, from 2:00 to 5:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 pm.
